Luke has been using this section of his gospel to teach us about Christian discipleship. In our last lesson we noticed that Jesus taught that disciples realize there is only one necessary thing — sitting at the feet of Jesus. The scene before us in Luke 11 begins with Jesus praying. When he finished praying, one of the disciples as Jesus to teach them to pray. John apparently taught this disciples how to pray and now Jesus is going to teach us how to pray.
